The Family Enterprise Mentoring (‘FEM’) programme is run by the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Private Capital to support those students and alumni who are working or have an interest in a multi-generational family business.
Almost one in five (19.8 per cent) of the largest UK firms are family-owned (Source: IFB 2020). Family businesses contribute significantly to the economy and have their own unique styles and cultures, balancing business with interpersonal family relationships.
Retaining and developing family members to maximise their potential, within or possibly outside of the family business, is fundamental to its smooth running. Also, improving each member’s long-term contribution ensures the ultimate success of both the individuals and the business. In a family business, this is usually planned and framed with a longer-term eye on future generations.
Mentoring can help a family business achieve these objectives. The IEPC, recognising the potential impact of family-owned entities in the context of both the entrepreneurship and private capital eco-systems, has launched the FEM programme to support the next generation of family business owners as a significant and influential group within the London Business School community.
Are you part of a multi-generational family business? Through the Family Enterprise Mentoring (‘FEM’) Programme you will access trusted mentors who you can speak to in confidence across a range of specific subject areas to support your journey – both personally and professionally – within your family-owned venture.
This programme is open to LBS students and alumni that are part of a family business or are exploring opportunities in the field.
You’ll access world-class specialist knowledge in areas that are pertinent to your family enterprise.
Our team of Family Enterprise Mentors have been carefully selected, including leading faculty members who are well versed in this sensitive area and who generously give their time to support participating students.
