Professor Jacobides joins WEF AI Governance Alliance

Professor Michael Jacobides has been invited to join the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution at the World Economic Forum’s newly launched AI Governance Alliance (AIGA).

The Sir Donald Gordon Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Professor of Strategy at London Business School, Professor Jacobides has been asked to join one of AIGA’s distinct working groups.

The goal of the AIGA is to bring stakeholders together with the objective of positively influencing existing AI governance efforts. The initiative builds on the extensive network and resources of the World Economic Forum to engage with different regions while contributing to shape a global approach to address the transformative nature of generative AI systems.

With a current focus on responsible generative AI, AIGA is a pioneering global multistakeholder initiative that unites industry leaders, academic institutions, civil society organisations, and governments to:

Champion responsible design and release of transparent and inclusive AI systems globally

Uphold the responsible deployment of applied AI across various industries and sectors

Co-design essential blueprints, and anticipatory governance mechanisms to contribute to a globally harmonized understanding of responsible AI

Drawing on the World Economic Forum’s rich 50-year history of fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships to tackle complex global issues, this initiative benefits from bridging private sector know-how and technical expertise with public sector governance mechanisms and the human-centric objectives of civil society organisations.

Speaking about his involvement with the AIGA, Professor Jacobides said that data privacy, algorithm bias, and broader concerns regarding the potential misuse of AI technologies are just some of the key issues currently being discussed. “AI has enmeshed itself into our daily lives in ways we may not even be aware of. It has become so prevalent that many remain unaware of both its impact and our dependence upon it. It is for these reasons and a host of others that I am delighted to make my contribution to the AIGA,” said Professor Jacobides.
