LBS professor among bestselling case study authors
London Business School’s Charles Handy Professor of Organisational Behaviour Herminia Ibarra has been named among the Case Centre’s Top 50 Bestselling Case Authors for 2022/23.
Herminia has appeared in the Top 50 list for the fifth consecutive year. This year she appears at Number 17, up from 24 in 2012/22.
Professor Ibarra’s top three bestselling case studies over the 2022/23 academic year were:
Satya Nadella at Microsoft: Instilling a Growth Mindset, the Overall Winner Award in the Case Centre’s 2020 Awards and Competitions. This case study describes how Nadella and his team executed cultural change at Microsoft. It was co-authored with Aneeta Rattan, Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour at LBS and writer Anna Johnston;
Jean-Philippe Courtois at Microsoft Global Sales, Marketing and Operations: Empowering Digital Success. This case study describes how Courtois, who took control of Microsoft’s global sales, marketing and operations in 2016, and his leadership team led the organisation away from an ‘inspection culture’ towards a culture of learning and coaching; and
Margaret Thatcher, an in-depth portrayal of the former British Prime Minister’s rise to the leadership of Great Britain’s Conservative party. The case describes her unlikely transition from ultimate outsider to powerful insider.
Speaking about what she sees as the prime value of case studies, Professor Ibarra says:
“Case studies bring business theory to life and are an invaluable resource for students and business practitioners. By gaining insight into situations that other business professionals have faced, students are more easily able to understand how the concepts and frameworks they encounter in the classroom can be applied in the real world. Beyond experiencing things directly, there is nothing that helps to crystallise the reality of working in business than getting the inside track from others,” she said.
