Julia Müller-Kemler

  • Programme: Masters in Management
  • Nationality: German
  • Job Pre-programme: Business Development Intern, Hogan Lovells

In her second week at London Business School (LBS), Julia Müller-Kemler MiM2019 is already determined to give something back to the School: she wants to be a student ambassador. “Promoting the Masters in Management to potential students is a great way to help people who are thinking of doing this course,” she says. “When I applied, I knew one alumni who told me how great the LBS community was and how people really stick together. And now I see that’s true. Even if you are not close friends with someone, they will help you, whether with work or socially. That’s something I like a lot.”

As a Merit Scholarship recipient, Julia has been recognised by the School for her efforts and potential. Students don’t apply for the scholarship – the School awards it to deserving students – so it came as a surprise. “Everyone has an impressive CV here, which makes it a special honour”, she says.

With a bachelor’s degree in International Business, Julia already has a sound basis of business knowledge. But the Masters in Management offered something extra that she felt her first degree lacked: an edge when applying for jobs. “A masters from LBS gives me more credibility in front of employers. It might be the case that I’ve already done business but this programme is more challenging and it will give me a lot of soft skills that are valuable in a work environment.”

It was during Julia’s interview for the MiM that her already good impression of LBS grew. “I could see that the alumni and the community that come with LBS – not only the programme, but the extras – are so enriching and helpful for growing as a person and finding your career.”

With her sights set on consulting as a career, Julia has joined the Consulting Club as a way of learning more about the industry and connecting with LBS students in other streams. “Although if I get the student ambassador role I’m not sure how much time I’ll have left for clubs! I just want to do all I can to be part of the LBS community and to enrich it by sharing my experience and helping others.”
