Pre-doctoral Research Assistant in Management Science and Operations

Job type: Full-time 

Start date: Academic year 2024/2025 

Duration: Fixed term contract up to two years 

Salary: Up to £40,000 pa inc., according to qualification and experience 

Location: London Business School, Regent’s Park, London NW1 4SA

What does the Pre-Doctoral Research Assistant programme involve? 

The programme offers a unique educational opportunity for high-potential individuals to come to London Business School to participate in the intellectual life of the school. 

The role provides an ideal transition for recent graduates who are interested in going on to a top business school PhD programme in Management Science and Operations. 

Successful candidates will work closely with leading faculty, learn to provide research assistance, e.g., in the form of data collection and analysis, and receive mentoring from the faculty with whom they are working. 

They will be able to take one PhD course per term, attend workshops and seminars, and access a rich intellectual and cultural campus life. They will benefit from the resources of the MSO community, which includes interactions with faculty and PhD students, and mentoring opportunities among others. 

Applicants must have completed a BS/MS degree before the appointment in a data science field, which may include computer science, applied mathematics, econometrics, operations research, or a related field.

They must demonstrate capabilities for writing code (Python or R), basic knowledge in mathematical modelling, and prior experience using libraries in statistics, machine learning, or operations research. 

We strongly encourage applications from candidates passionate about data science for social good who wish to pursue a Ph.D. after a pre-doctoral research experience as the position provides excellent preparation for high-level doctoral studies.
