Yueyang Zhong
Assistant Professor of Management Science and Operations
BA (Tsinghua) MBA PhD (Chicago)
Dr Yueyang Zhong is an expert in stochastic modelling and optimisation of human-centred service systems. Her research aims to develop policies that align individual incentives with the goals of system designers. In particular, Dr Zhong is interested in topics including the impact of human behaviour on system design decisions, data-driven sequential decision-making, information design in social impact domains, and equitable resource allocation in service systems.
Before joining LBS, Dr Zhong held postdoctoral research positions at the University of Chicago and Yale University. She holds a PhD in Management Science and Operations Management and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Economics from Tsinghua University.

Dr. Zhong's research focuses on designing smarter, fairer, and more efficient service systems. Her work blends operations research, economics, and data-driven decision-making to tackle challenges in high-impact sectors. Her work spans:
- Customer and Server Behaviour: Understanding how people respond to waiting, pricing, compensation, among many other system designs in congested service environments, and how this shapes overall performance.
- Data-Driven Decision-Making: Developing algorithms that help businesses make better operational decisions when information is limited or evolving.
- Equitable and Efficient Resource Allocation: Creating solutions for healthcare and emergency services that balance efficiency with fairness.
- Information and Mechanism Design: Exploring how information and regulation can drive better outcomes in high-stakes settings like education, mental health, welfare programs, and the digital economy.
