Can computers be creative?
What will it mean for people when machines can be creative?
What will it mean for people when machines can be creative? Artificial intelligence (AI) will take jobs, but right now, the creative industries probably face the least risk.
Composer and entrepreneur Ed Rex says that the day will come when machines will be as creative as humans, and he’s founded a start-up that investigates how and when that might happen.
We care about the story behind art. People will always be creative. When AI can drive trucks just as cheaply and efficiently as humans, we probably won’t drive trucks any more. But when and if computers can write music like David Bowie, musicians will still be musicians because our appreciation of them is about much more than just what they produce. They have a story we have an emotional attachment to. Machines being creative will never stop humans being creative.
Or will it?
