LBS faculty recognised for publishing excellence
Savvy Investor Awards 2017 hands top accolade to work by London Business School Emeritus Professor Elroy Dimson
Dr Mike Staunton, Professor Paul Marsh and Professor Elroy Dimson have been recognised for their work producing the 'Credit Suisse Global Investment Returns Yearbook 2017'.
A book co-edited by Professor Elroy Dimson, Emeritus Professor of Finance at London Business School (LBS), has claimed the top prize in this year’s Savvy Investor Awards.
Professor Dimson’s Financial Market History: Reflections on the Past for Investors Today was named Best Investment Paper 2017 in the awards organised by research network Savvy Investor.
Professor Dimson edited the compendium of papers with his Cambridge Judge Business School colleague Dr David Chambers, a graduate of LBS (Sloan, 1992). It was published by the CFA Institute Research Foundation and offers comprehensive insights into financial market history. Each section discusses a different facet of financial markets, including risk and return over the long run, financial innovation and bubbles and crises.
“I am humbled by this acknowledgement of Dr Chambers’ and my work,” Professor Dimson said.
“This compendium would not have been possible without the valuable contribution of many other individuals, who shared their knowledge and expertise with us.
“In looking back through time, it is my hope that Financial Market History will act as an instructive and thought-provoking resource for years to come.”
The publication’s lead chapter was co-authored by Professor Dimson with his LBS colleagues Professor Paul Marsh, Emeritus Professor of Finance, and Dr Mike Staunton, Director of the School’s London Share Price Database.
A second publication produced by the three faculty members was separately recognised.
Their paper ‘Credit Suisse Global Investment Returns Yearbook 2017’ was highly commended in the Best Asset Allocation Paper 2017 category of this year’s Savvy Investor Awards. The authors have produced the ‘Global Investment Returns Yearbook’ each year since 2000.
Professor Dimson is Emeritus Professor of Finance at LBS and Chairman of the Newton Centre for Endowment Asset Management at Cambridge Judge Business School. He is a previous winner of the James R. Vertin Award from the CFA Institute and the Moskowitz Prize.
Professor Marsh is Emeritus Professor of Finance at LBS. His articles have been published in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Business and Harvard Business Review. He has given professional evidence before the House of Commons and House of Lords Select Committees and the London Stock Exchange.
Dr Staunton is the Director of the London Share Price Database of LBS and producer of the LBS Risk Measurement Service. His articles have appeared in publications like the Journal of Banking & Finance and the Financial Analysts Journal.
