Shared Medical Appointments research recognised
Paper by LBS faculty and PhD graduate highly commended in Financial Times’ Responsible Business Education Awards
The Financial Times has recognised London Business School research in its 2024 Responsible Business Education Awards.
‘Evidence from the First Shared Medical Appointments (SMAs) Randomised Controlled Trial in India’, led by Deloitte Chair in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Kamalini Ramdas and co-authored by PhD programme graduate Nazlı Sönmez (now ESMT Berlin), was ‘Highly Commended’ by judges in the Academic Research Award category.
The paper details the results of a large-scale randomised control trial testing the efficacy of SMAs for glaucoma patients. SMAs allow physicians to treat patients sharing the same condition in a group setting, while continuing to allow patients access to one-to-one care. The researchers showed participants in the SMAs had higher levels of satisfaction and were more knowledgeable about their condition. They were also more likely to comply with their treatment plan.
